“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” – Marilyn Monroe
Kia Ora, I’m Cherry. Registered Nurse, Midwife, Lactation Consultant, freelance writer and artist, and a mother of three.
Graduating in 2004 from Griffith University, Gold Coast, I earned my Bachelors Degree in Nursing and explored areas including Medical Surgical, Maternal Mental Health and Children’s Health, until five years later when I found my purpose in Women and Children’s health, branching into maternity. I completed my Masters of Midwifery at the Logan Campus in 2009.
In 2010 I made the sea-change from the Gold Coast to picturesque New Zealand, ending up in rural Dannevirke, as a hospital core midwife and loved every minute.
In 2014-15 I brought two delightful joys into this world which of course meant my midwifery career took a backseat. During my maternity leave I returned to study and took the IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) exam in 2016, passing in December with high marks.
Helping mothers connect and provide for their new babies as a Lactation Consultant along side being a Midwife ensures I am pivotal to enhancing Women and Children’s Health outcomes within the Tararua District. I am enthusiastic about breastfeeding and the benefits it brings to both babies and mothers, and I am committed to continuing my education in both lactation and midwifery fields to provide a refreshingly high standard of care.
As a representative for Medela breast feeding products, (which I used and can recommend) I can provide you with everything you need to provide what’s breast for mother and baby.
My husband, Justin, and I also have a farm 30 minutes East of Dannevirke and run 500 odd bulls predominately. In our down time, we attend to our 60 beehives out on the wild Akitio Coast family farm and produce a high grade of monofloral manuka honey.
I enjoy reading books, oil painting, and trekking through wild papua new guinean jungles!
